About this deal

Starring: Adam Faison, Aoife Hinds, Brandon Flynn, Drew Starkey, Goran Visnjic, Jamie Clayton, Jason Liles, Kit Clarke, Oessa A’Zion, Selina Lo, Yinka Olorunnife, Zachary Hing Since its Sundance premiere, the energy surrounding the film has steadily grown with RogerEbert.com calling Onyx the Fortuitous “a handmade horror gem.”

Newly uncovered extended Electronic Press Kit (EPK) interviews with Clive Barker and stars Andrew Robinson, Clare Higgins, Ashley Laurence, and effects artist Bob Keen, shot during the making of Hellraiser, with a new introduction by Stephen Jones and Kim Newman, plus the original 1987 EPK – NEW (41 mins) All the new features don’t focus on the specifics of the films, but of the broader themes and context of the franchise. And they are all well worth watching, even if at times they veer into raging pretension. Digging into some of them, the two documentaries on the Hellbound disc are possibly the best two here, the first being a loose but fun deep dive into the film by a couple of friends which sounds like the kind of conversation you wish you had down your local, whilst the second fully appreciates the work that composer Young brings to the whole series. However the new features on the first film’s disc take an interesting look into Barker and what his work meant to people and it’s a lovely approach to take rather than regurgitate the same talking heads talking about the same film again.

Hellraiser has had its US release, both on the horror festival front and then on Hulu, which should immediately suggest it would be coming to the UK on Disney/Star. But... the launch of Paramount+ in the UK has complicated this issue, with international rights to release Hellraiser now potentially in the hands of them (it's coming to Paramount+ in Australia, for example). Only time will tell, but what it does mean is that it isn't out here yet, which is frustrating in the digital age, when day-and-date digital releases should be the norm (see: Netflix) rather than a pleasant surprise. Archival features, including two audio commentaries, interviews with Doug Bradley, Sean Baker, Stephen Thrower, trailers, TV spots, image gallery and draft screenplays – LEGACY

There’s no doubt that the Hellraiser franchise has been diluted somewhat by a sea of inferior sequels and the loss of just about everyone associated with its beginnings in the intervening years. However, there is something that can’t help but resonate with the public’s consciousness about the film’s antagonists and what they stand for – at once terrifyingly evil and wholly unknowable, yet rooted in what it means to be human, their being angels to some and devils to others is a notion we seem unable to shake. And certainly the best of the films are gathered here in this collection, now including one of the most interesting if not quite best of the sequels. First things first – the Leviathan documentary on the first two films that was included in the previous Scarlet Box and Trilogy set is NOT included here. Neither are the 30 min making of Hellraiser III and short films on the bonus disc of the set. However everything else is. And some… Horror character, not quite as well-known outside of genre aficionados as Jason, Freddy, and Michael Myers, but he's just as -- if not more so -- disturbing, sinister, and terrifying. He combines the grace of Dracula with the frightening and Based on Andrew Bowser’s viral character of the same name , Onyx tells the story of an amateur occultist who learns that sometimes when you raise HELL… you get a little burned . That Rat-Slice Sound - appreciation of composer Christopher Young’s scores for Hellraiser and Hellbound: Hellraiser II by Guy Adams – NEW (12 mins)Fresh out of theaters, currently available on VOD and now streaming exclusively on SCREAMBOX, Bloody Disgusting’s Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls is coming home for the holidays, arriving as a Collector’s Edition Blu-ray on December 19, loaded with bonus features, extended/deleted scenes, commentaries and an exclusive slipcover.

A histrionic, hyperbolic quote it may be…but when it comes from the lips of one Stephen King (himself referencing it from a quote about, ironically, The Boss…Bruce Springsteen), it really shouldn’t be so easily dismissed as mere marketing fluff. The biggest difference right off the bat between the two competing editions of Hellraiser is Image's ditching of Anchor Bay's Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Image Entertainment's Blu-ray release of Hellraiser isn't exactly on the cutting edge of Blu-ray excellence, but it certainly gets the job done.

Doctor Who | The respectful hat tip to Bernard Cribbins

years after the classic original (and its solid first sequel), and Hellraiser earns a surprisingly competent and suitably vicious reboot that may just give it a new lease of life. nevertheless proves to be the superior version. It's perhaps a hair crisper than the Image release. Fine detail is comparable, with a slight edge again a beautifully perverse series of images and characters that have never left the audience's consciousness... I really enjoyed this film. I always felt the budget could never match the scope of imagination embedded in the Hellraiser films, and here we are, what we see on screen matches the imagination. The story is not as good as the original, but it is better than a lot of the sequels. I feel more effort was put into getting the lore right for this film than making a truly engaging story but that’s ok. Do I want to see more of this brand of Hellraiser, yes I do. HELLRAISER is available on HULU in the US now, and out in the UK 31st October in 4K Dolby Vision HDR with Dolby Atmos.
