Of the replacement devices the Guardline system looked to be the best in terms of features and reliability but then I spotted this system. The smoke alarm comes equipped with a premium sealed lithium battery that lasts for 10 years which ensures a hassle-free experience without having to frequently replace or hardwire. Battery operated security timer switch allows you to have your house lights come on and off at different times on different days to make it appear like your home is occupied. This would of course entirely depend on how you intend to use the product and appreciate it may not be practical for situations where you want to use the timer for security lighting when you are home. We found existing timers either needed wiring or didn’t work with LED’s so we set about creating our own.

Apparently they have a thing built into them that makes them not go off first sign of an intruder or what ever your trying to protect. Because they are battery operated they are not affected by powercuts so are better than the socket timers of old. Our doorbell range is expandable – meaning you can add additional bells or chimes and other sensors including driveway sensors to create a complete home alert system. If the property is occasionally empty then the unit is easy to install into the cradle sitting on the switch. But, one word of warning, if you are using this in conjunction with a configuration that allows eg a hall light to be switched on and off upstairs and downstairs, it will confuse the unit if you do either from the other switch.

With 2 Duracell AAs fitted I observe that by the time the on-cycle finishes, the wheels are against the top battery, which could do with being lower in it’s housing!The 1st has worked perfectly for the last couple of years and hence my reason to choose the same product.

You can choose which lights you would like to programme however by simply placing one of the provided wheels over the switch(s) you do wish to control.Note that if you are using it on a dual or triple switch then you can select which switches are controlled by this by adding/removing wheels. I will get round this by setting the off time late on after I have gone to bed (I used to switch the downstairs light off from the switch at the top of the stairs).
