About this deal

And I’m not just talking about core Revolver tracks like “Tomorrow Never Knows” — which is a landmark in its own right — but also amazing songs like “She Said She Said,” where the lift of his drumming is just magnificent. Along with the restoration of the original album artwork by Voormann, the record sleeve that holds the session outtakes features Robert Freeman's proposed cover design, featuring the heads of the Beatles in a psychedelic circle. You’re right, that guitar solo in “Got to Get You Into My Life” is marvelous, and it does get overshadowed a bit in the new mix.

By 4 am on June 22, The Beatles finished "She Said She Said," wrapping up their Revolver recording sessions. He always did tend to create more inventive, complex bass parts when playing on someone else’s song, my theory is that only having to worry about the bass allowed him to concentrate a little more.

Listen for the woody resonance of the acoustic Indian instruments on Harrison’s “Love You To,” and the precise detail of those drones.

Instead, Klaus Voorman’s hand-drawn art and collage — which includes The Beatles’ real eyes of psychedelic “experience” piercing through to the knowing viewer — capture more of the irreverent, forward-looking mood of where The Beatles actually were in 1966, and where the then-burgeoning underground music scene was heading via West Coast and London psychedelia movements alike. Enjoy the decay on Ringo’s cymbal crashes on “Taxman,” and that splash cymbal on “Good Day Sunshine. Megan recommends that he play “Tomorrow Never Knows,” the closing track on the Beatles’ new album “Revolver. But, hey, the music itself herein is great, and, clearly, a lot of love and care went into its creation — and it all sounds pretty terrific too on vinyl. It is refreshing to hear a different generational perspective of how this musician became a Beatles fan. It was a turning point in the history of rock music, obliterating barriers and demolishing boundaries, and pointing the way to the best that rock music would have to offer. In the original stereo mix, the quartet was locked in the middle with vocals on either channel, so it’s just wonderful hearing this spread out more naturally. I’m happy about this new Super Deluxe Revolver 4LP/1EP box set, hands down — and I think you will be too!

Just want to add a couple of comments to the mix, not really related to the album Revolver to the the broader contribution of the Beatles.

Tomorrow Never Knows” was the first song the Beatles recorded when they entered Abbey Road on April 6, 1966, and the most radical.

Spinning popular music off its axis and ushering in a vibrant new era of experimental, avant-garde sonic psychedelia, Revolver brought about a cultural sea change and marked an important turn in The Beatles’ own creative evolution. The song that ended up delighting millions of children and inspiring an animated movie began life as a gloomy folk ballad about a dying town. Yet the main attraction of the outtakes is what happens outside of the music: the snatches of conversation, laughter and friendly disagreement that place the listener in the room with four young men who feel as if there is nothing they cannot do. Kind of wish I was a vinyl guy, but then I’d always be freaking out that I was wearing the album out a little bit every time I played it.More literal in concept, the alternate Revolver cover design gracing the Sessions LP gatefold cover features a groovy swirling collage of images of all four Beatles.
