About this deal

Our Western religious heritage that has told us that we have dominion over the Earth is taking us to the brink of extinction, a topic I have frequently written about with my interest in the role of our ancient hunter-gatherer ancestors.

Many of the techniques in it probably would be great for someone looking to start their own business, which is the book's main focus. Good content, but - as every 5th sentence is “quote-unquote” hearing it 100 times within 30 minutes does really become annoying. If you or you know of someone who has ADHD, this book is for you-- it includes an interesting theory about ADHDers being the descendants of the Hunters in our former societies, something about which seems to make sense to me.While the Farmer’s consciousness is very task focused, the Hunter’s consciousness may be considered open or diffused. These questions and some possible answers are woven through this book, providing basic factual information about ADHD with a twist that helps readers recognize the value - sometimes quite special - of people who have it. About the time I got diagnosed with ADHD, Thom Hartmann produced the first edition of ADHD: Hunters in a Farmer’s World.

A key component of the hypothesis is that the proposed " hyperfocus" aspect of ADHD is a benefit under appropriate circumstances. Hunters would have one of their group remain awake for some time while the others slept before being relieved by another Hunter, awake to protect the sleeping hunters from potential predators, whether animals or some other competing humans.

People with this type of brain hyperfocus on one area much more than other people are able to do, at the cost of all the other things outside of that.

honestly ADHd in the right situation is useful but being able to direct your focus consistently is the current of the 21st century where everyones attention span is only 30 seconds. My kids were high strung and had trouble sitting still but with a firm parent we were able to keep them inline. With our structured public schools, office workplaces, and factories those who inherit a surplus of “hunter skills” are often left frustrated in a world that doesn’t understand or support them.

Another factor in understanding ADHD is understanding the roles of the thalamus and reticular formation.
