About this deal

I found myself having to pause the audio at a few spots because I couldn't hear the reading over my laughter. MY LIFE deals with Jason's early life and his career up until his successes in Only Fools and Horses and A Touch of Frost.

Smiley and his people are facing a remarkable challenge: a mole - a soviet double agent - who has burrowed his way in and up to the highest level of British Intelligence. The programme ended in 1969, and the character then appeared for a time in the Thames Television children's programme Magpie. The veteran British actor looks back over his career, from how it all began to the people that inspired his later roles. But life hasn't all been so easy: from missing out on a key role in Dad’s Army to nearly drowning in a freak diving accident, David has had his fair share of ups and downs, and has lost some of his nearest and dearest along the way.I loved the stories about his family, particularly his mother (her explanation of the noises in wartime as 'just God moving his furniture around' made an impression on me) and the bygone age transmitted in these tales alongside his dry humour and jovial story-telling made this an interesting read.

For me the middle part of the book was a bit dry and I guess not knowing all the old actors and actresses of the 60's and 70's it was not my favorite book. Random House presents the complete, unabridged audiobook of My Lives: From Del Boy to Granville, Pop Larkin to Frost by David Jason. He provided the voice of Father Christmas in Father Christmas and the Missing Reindeer, Rola Polar in The Adventures of Dawdle the Donkey, Angelmouse, and did voices in animated films including Wombling Free and The Water Babies. It wasn’t until 1981, kitted out with a sheepskin jacket, a flat cap, and a clapped-out Reliant Regal, that David found the part that would capture the nation’s hearts: the beloved Derek ‘Del Boy’ Trotter in Only Fools and Horses.

Born the son of a Billingsgate market porter at the height of the Second World War, David Jason spent his early life dodging bombs and bullies, both with impish good timing. Prompted by his retirement from his full-time job in the NHS, and through his continuing work in Nepal and Ukraine, Henry has been forced to reflect more deeply about what 40 years spent handling the human brain has taught him. Had me laughing when mentioned had nailed leonard's shoes to the floor as a joke in the dressing room and moved at many parts especially hearing the poetry from the first 'guvner' Ronnie Barker, before he was given the same fond title when Ronnie retired. Three new episodes of the show were shown in autumn 2008, and were followed by a two-part finale in 2010. Maybe I'm just a little biased, being such a huge fan of Only Fools, but I think that might not even be the case. His stories before he decided to become an actor, learning various trades, resulted in some great stories. The period of time when David worked with Ronnie Barker is my favourite part of the book – Ronnie Barker is another of my great heroes and I have the utmost respect and admiration for the friendship the two men shared – you can tell just how much David loved Ronnie from the way he talks about him, page after page. I had my phone by my side all the time so I could find a picture to remind me who some of the other actors were and it was like reading about old friends. The book is so easy to read and the dreaded actor ego does not rear its ugly head fortunately although you can argue that just writing a book about yourself is ego enough. Plain speaking, warm, with a love of the art of comedy that shines though his career and through his writing.
