About this deal

i would have expected the Micro K1 not to be as good but as far as i can see it is just as good. The other upside is you dont need a massive pump to compress the beads when you're using K1. Nevertheless a crucial step in pond design is to correctly size the pond filter. Too large takes up valuable space and is expensive. Too small will almost certainly lead to poor water quality and a decline in the health of the fish. Very often manufacturers size their filters according to the size of the pond. This does not make any sense and will certainly lead to disappointment. Aquaforte Hikari Kiyomizu Koi Food Koi Logic Kusuri Nishikoi NT Labs Ogata Roto Innovations Yamitsu All Brands They both look the same just one's bigger than the other basically. I only mentioned the volumes in litres for each as those were the ones stated by EA for either K1 or K1 Micro in an Eazy Pod which I thought might help with identification with out the need to measure the actual size of the media. 18 litres is going to be noticeably less than 30 litres.

Due to its neutral buoyancy a small amount of air injected into a filter will cause the bed to move, thus separating the excess solids from the media surface area. The solids can then be run to waste. In this way the effective surface area remains as high as possible. Alternative Filter Media With a new shape and profile, K+ Filter Media has also been designed to have an increased and class leading surface area, meaning an overall surface area of 1,350m2 per m3. More importantly for biological filtration, the protected surface area of K+ Media is 1,025m2 per m3. This allows a stable bio-film to form and remain intact when used in moving bed biological filtration, as in the new Nexus+.After many years of research, Evolution Aqua have now developed a new media that not only gives class leading surface area, but also overcomes the problem of long maturation times. Some new biofilter media are slow to colonize, while others are very fast. This may be due to excessive agitation, which scrapes the bacteria off the surface. The best bio-media should support a healthy colony of beneficial bacteria. The more bacteria the biofilter supports, the better it will work in removing harmful compounds. If your media has a high bacterial count, you will experience a faster filtration time. KennyI was only asking as i was browsing and seen the K3 and thought mmmm is K3 the next step up from K1 (number squence)... How it is different to other media : As the Kaldnes media moves within the filter, it causes the old dead bacteria on the outside to be displaced. This makes space for new younger heavier feeding bacteria to rapidly colonise. Within the wheel is a protected surface which enables colonies of bacteria to naturally follow their lifecycle, of maturing, dying and then fueling the latter stages of the nitrification cycle. Kaldnes has been designed to provide the best possible habitat for both young and mature beneficial bacterial colonies.

If you have been thinking about investing in a water purification system, you may be wondering how K1 filter media will affect your water. These media are contained within a wheel-like structure made of 11mm x 7mm plastic. The large compartments of the K1 media promote the growth of healthy bacteria on the surface of the filter. The media is then placed inside your water filtration system. Maturing the K1 micro media bio-media is important because a delicate eco-system is naturally developing for the bacteria involved in the nitrification process. K1 micro media provides the maximum active surface area for the bacteria to colonise, more than other types of static media. It is this process which removes harmful ammonia and nitrite from the water.Aquarium bio filter media is a great way to maintain a healthy environment in your fish tank. It consists of 10 x 7 mm diameter nano balls that are made of ceramic forged at a high temperature. Because of their pore structure, these balls have a perfect surface area for bacteria to thrive. They also reduce ammonia and nitrites, foul odor, and different kinds of blemishes. In addition, they help produce clear water. Slide Valves & Ball Valves Slide Valves Double Union Ball Valves Single Union Ball Valves Economy Ball Valves Valve Sleeves Lever Valves Valve Spares Divert Valves While K1 is primarily found in leafy green vegetables, it is also present in some animal products and fermented foods. When used in an aquarium, K1 is more effectively absorbed by the body because it contains a protective surface. K1 also provides habitat for young and mature beneficial bacterial colonies. The media is ideal for purification because it has the capacity to remove excess ammonia, nitrate, and other harmful pollutants.

Kaldnes Moving Bed process, which has been scientifically tried and tested in fish farming and waste water treatment for over 10 years, is now available for fish keepers and is exclusively distributed worldwide by Evolution Aqua. The media is engineered in a wheel shape and is slightly positively buoyant. This allows a small amount of water flow to circulate the media throughout the vessel. This flow is created with your air pump and air stones or diffuser etc. The wheel shaped structure of K1 Micro is designed specifically to create the most effective environment for the nitrification process to take place. As K1 Micro media matures, bacteria colonises in the “quiet areas” of each piece of media helping to improve nitrification / de-nitrification. This enables a well-balanced biological equilibrium to be sustained in your pond to keep fish healthy and the water crystal clear. K1 Media provides protected surface area to boost beneficial bacteria colonization for biological filtration. K1 Micro is identical to K1, but the smaller shape allows even more protected area per unit volume, giving it an even higher ability to perform biological filtration. Each liter of K1 Media will handle up to 5g of food per day. If you say where you are based and you only need a litre or 2 of K1 someone local to you might have some that you can buy off then to save you having to buy a 25 litre bag of the stuff? The role of communities other than microbial ones appears to be important in maintaining water quality in both pond and tank — I’m not suggesting these cryptic microfauna can’t live in or on other media (they undoubtedly will), and EA certainly isn’t claiming that — it’s just that it appears to have engineered an environment just right for them to proliferate in quantity with K1 Micro. You don’t need to take EA’s word for it, as I’ve seen some amazing photos of mature K1 Micro as proof, with hordes of motile rotifers and sessile Vorticella protozoans clearly visible. K1 Micro Media from Evolution Aqua can also be used to replace existing filter media and is ideally suited toKoi filtration systems.
