At times, though, he pushes too hard to make Thorne's colleagues quirky: "Thorne stared at the figure in black fleece, with shaved head and a startling collection of facial piercings.

SCAREDY CAT by Mark Billingham - Publishers Weekly SCAREDY CAT by Mark Billingham - Publishers Weekly

Billingham has received quite a number of nominations and awards relating to all areas of his careers. I stumbled across a Thorne novel, liked it, and then I looked up Mark online and found a question-and-answer session where he said that if his books ever made it to the screen, he’d like me to play the lead. As with any adaptation of a book, there were a number of changes in bringing these books to the screen, but I was happy with all of them. Phil Hendricks was not everyone's idea of a pathologist, but he was the best Thorne had ever worked with.

Scaredy Cat will be, and deserves to be, a bestseller as it stands head and shoulders above the competition.

In the year 2009, the novel was listed as one of the 100 novels which shaped the decade and was later chosen as one of the best titles for World Book Night in 2011. But whilst the methods might be the same Thorne comes to realise that he is hunting two very different killers. The central character has continuously featured in the vast majority of his works except in the novels titled in The Dark and Rush of Blood. In 1997, Billingham and his writing partner Peter Cocks were kidnapped and held hostage in a Manchester hotel room. It was released in August 2001 and made it onto the Sunday time in the Top ten best seller categories. However, this very aspect of his character causes Billingham great difficulty in describing him without giving away plot twists. Ultimately he abandoned the unfinished novel and the comic-crime genre to focus on another book that would become Sleepyhead.

After playing a variety of "bad guy roles such as a soccer hooligan, drug addict, a nasty copper, a racist copper or a bent copper", he claimed that he had become disenchanted with acting and that the emphasis was not on talent, but on looks. In Maid Marian and her Merry Men, Billingham played Gary, a dim-but-lovable guard in the employ of the Sheriff of Nottingham ( Tony Robinson), as part of a double-act with Graeme ( David Lloyd). Tom and his team investigate the twin killings on the extraordinary concept that a pair of serial killers working in tandem committed the crimes. In the year 1988, mark Billingham was seen on the children’s comedy series news at twelve in which the central character broadcasts his own TV news bulletin every evening.

This theme was later fed into his novel that if one person is able to scare someone so much, then they can make them do anything. Billingham keeps the reader guessing as to the principal killer’s true identity right to the very end. The first two novels adapted for the series were Sleepyhead, in which Thorne has to track down and stop a serial killer who aims to leave his victims alive but unable to communicate because of locked-in syndrome; and Scaredy Cat, in which two serial killers, Martin Palmer and Stuart Nicklin, begin to work in tandem to pick off their victims. At the outset of Billingham’s slow-burning 13th Tom Thorne novel (after 2014’s The Bones Beneath), the detective inspector’s girlfriend, Det.
